Former top welterweight contender Josh Koscheck has agreed to replace an injured Diego Sanchez and face former champion Matt Hughes on short-notice at UFC 135 on Sept. 24 in Denver, Koscheck announced Monday hours after UFC President Dana White said Sanchez was out of the co-main event with a broken hand.
Koscheck and the UFC are now awaiting approval from Hughes before the matchup is official.
Koscheck (15-5) hasn’t fought since dropping a unanimous decision to welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre in December after suffering a broken orbital in the bout, while Hughes (45-8) is looking to rebound from a 21-second KO loss to BJ Penn in November that followed three-straight wins.
