Following earlier reports that burgeoning Heavyweight star Shane del Rosario had been forced out of his June 18th Strikeforce match-up with Daniel Cormier, new details have emerged surrounding the automobile accident that resulted in his injuries.

According to MMAJunkie.com, who spoke with Del Rosario's trainer, Colin Oyama, the fighter was stopped at a traffic light on April 14th in Laguna Niguel, California when an allegedly intoxicated driver crashed into his car.

"He was at a complete stop," Oyama explained. "This lady was drunk at 6 p.m. – I'm not sure how you're drunk at 6 p.m. – but she lost control of her car, smashed into him, and apparently tried to flee the scene. The cops chased her down and caught her."

Now faced with time consuming legal proceedings, as well as serious bodily injury, Oyama admits that there are doubts whether the unbeaten prospect will ever adequately recover enough to resume his promising fight career.

"He's having some serious physical difficulties," said Oyama. "He's planning on [fighting again], but the injuries are serious enough to where it's kind of in question whether he can or not. We're hoping that he can. We'll know more in six months."

For now, however, Del Rosario, with the assistance of ZUFFA, is seeking legal recourse against the drunk driver, who was booked on charges of driving under the influence by the Orange County Police Department.

Del Rosario is currently 11-0 as a pro and was last seen in action this past February at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Silva, where he picked-up a first-round submission victory over Lavar Johnson. It is unclear at this time whether Cormier, who is now left without an opponent for the Dallas event, will remain on the card, however reports indicate that a Lightweight clash between former Welterweight title contender K.J. Noons and American Top Team member Jorge Masvidal will likely serve as a replacement for the Heavyweight bout.
