UFC 146′s recent trend of scheduling big heavyweight fights has continued as a bout between Cain Velasquez and Frank Mir has been verbally agreed to. Fox Sports reported the news earlier today, adding that the bout will determine the next challenger for the heavyweight title according to UFC President Dana White.
Velasquez last fought against UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos at UFC on Fox 1. Velazquez, reportedly struggling with a knee injury, was unable to get anything going in the short fight and lost his title via TKO.
Mir last fought at UFC 140, where he achieved a historic and gruesome submission victory over Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Mir will be looking to extend his current three-fight win streak to four.
UFC 146 takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 26. The card will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between champion Junior Dos Santos and former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem.
