If Anderson Silva successfully defends his middleweight title over Yushin Okami on Saturday at UFC 134, another rematch could be on tap for “The Spider” as UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta hopes to have Silva headline the UFC’s debut on Fox against Strikeforce title-holder Dan Henderson.
“We don’t have a main event set yet, we’ll find out probably after this Saturday, these fights in Rio, then we’ll set a main event. But it’ll be something big. It’ll be a big fight,” Fertitta told Tatame.
“I would love to do [Silva vs. Henderson]. Anderson just needs a win.”
Silva (30-4) scored a second-round submission of Henderson in their first meeting in 2008 and has won seven-straight since to push his win streak to 14. Henderson (28-8) has won six of seven since the loss, losing only to Jake Shields while recently knocking out heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko for his third-straight win.
If Henderson doesn’t want to return to 185-pounds just months after fighting at heavyweight, the UFC would reportedly consider pulling Chael Sonnen from his UFC 136 fight with Brian Stann to rematch Silva on Fox, but with the event slated for California where Sonnen was suspended for elevated testosterone that seems unlikely.
