The UFC held weigh-ins for their UFC on Versus card on Saturday, August 13. When main event fighter Chris Lytle stepped onto the stage for his turn on the scale, he walked directly over to UFC President Dana White and handed him an envelope. Lytle then took to the scale, making weight for his Sunday fight against Dan Hardy.

It was later revealed that inside the envelope was a letter addressed to White, detailing Lytle's plans to retire after his bout with Hardy.

Lytle left the Octagon on Sunday in style, taking the victory via third round submission. After the bout Lytle was awarded two "Fight Night" bonuses for his performance, "Submission of the Night" as well as "Fight of the Night." In addition to the $130,000 he took him in bonus money he was also awarded a 2012 Harley Davidson Blackline motorcycle that the UFC sponsor had earmarked for the main event winner.

Prior to the Hardy fight, White sat down and spoke to the Versus crew and the first topic he covered was Lytle's retirement.
