The winner of UFC 127′s main event between BJ Penn and Jon Fitch will be the top contender at 170-pounds and in line for a title shot after champion Georges St-Pierre faces Jake Shields at April’s UFC 129.
UFC President Dana White made the announcement during a Tuesday media call to promote the Feb. 27 event in Sydney, Australia, which airs on pay-per-view in the U.S. on Feb. 26 in its regular time slot due to the time difference.
Penn (16-7-1) returned to 170-pounds with a 21-second knockout of Matt Hughes in November after losing the lightweight title and an immediate rematch to Frankie Edgar earlier in the year, while Fitch (23-3) has returned to title contention with five-straight wins including a unanimous decision over Thiago Alves in August.
