Former Sengoku Middleweight Champion Jorge Santiago will be making a return to the Zuffa ranks as he makes his Strikeforce debut. Quin Mulhern has announced via twitter that will be the man pegged to welcome the Blackzilian fighter to the Strikeforce cage. The New Mexican tweeted earlier today, “You heard it from me first: I’m fighting September 29th in Sacramento against Jorge Santiago.”
Santiago (25-10) has spent much of his career at middleweight, which has included two prior runs under the Zuffa banner, the most recent of which saw him bounced from the UFC after losses to Brian Stann and Demian Maia. After back-to-back victories since his release, the Brazilian enters the promotion trying and build off his recent success against one of Strikeforce’s welterweight prospects.
Mulhern (18-2) is currently on a 3-1 run inside the Strikeforce cage, with his sole loss coming at the hands top contender Jason High. The Santa Fe native most recently took a split decision victory over Santiago’s teammate Yuri Villefort and now looks to earn what would be the biggest win of his career against the UFC veteran.
